I have been waiting for it to warm up. I live up on a hill above Portland. I think now it is just about time to turn the soil and put some seeds into the ground. Growing a garden is one of my favorite ways to have a sustainable life.
There is a lot of talk about ways to go green. Every store is toting products that you can buy. Buy this and now you are green. Sort of like this year’s fashion. I thought that was what the problem, that we are buying too much stuff.
I don't want to stop having the things I love any more then you do. What if there was a way to have what you want, reduce your carbon foot print and make your life in general a little better.
That is where planting a small garden comes in. A garden is more than some plants, it can be:
• Stress relief
• Fresh food
• Beautiful
I also think it is great reason to get out of the house. Growing a garden gives you a reason to stop interacting with your world through your computer or TV. Having a garden lets you clam your life and feel more a part of your home.
If you are excited and want to get started, but don’t know what to do, here are a few of my favorite resources.
Seed and Supply Company:

There are a few local organizations that can help you get started.
I love these guys. They help people plant gardens in their back yards. They also offer support to those that don't know anything about growing food.
